About Washington (WA) Lottery

The Washington State Lottery came into being on July 16, 1982. Legislation for the WA state lottery was signed on this date and the struggle had gone on for more than nine years.

The reason behind the registration and launch of this lottery was that a setback had resulted in the entire state being very poor from that point onwards and the legislation was finding it difficult to come to a fixed decision about where the benefits and profits of the lottery should go – the educational funds or all the other sections of the state, as well. In the end, it was decided that all the areas would receive money that the lottery generates.

SO, WHO BENEFITS FROM THE MONEY?

Washington state lottery results have changed so many lives. When the lottery makes any benefits profits, the money is divided between a lot of sectors. 62.3% of it goes to the prize winners and that equals to about $457.9 million. Then, 18.3% of the money goes to WOPA Education, and this equals to about $134.2 million. 5.0%, which is about $36.9 million, goes to the people, or retailers as we commonly know them, which are selling tickets of the WA state lottery. The cost of sales is about $43.3 million, which equals to 5.9%. The General Fund of the state lottery gets about 4.2% of the benefits, and this equates to $31.2 million. The Stadium & Exhibition Center gets $12.6 million, which is 1.7% of the money. The administration which is running the entire state lottery get about $14.0 million, which makes up 1.9% of the money. Then, we have Economic Development of the state which gets 0.6%, which equals to $4.6 million. And the remaining 0.1%, that is $0.4 million goes into taking care of problem gambling.

GAMES PLAYED:

The main kinds of games offered at Washington state lottery are of a very large range and variety. You can play Scratch games, in which tickets are bought so that the people can find out if they won or not instantly. No waiting is required. Then, we have the Draw games. These are WA state lotto games, which make the players observe the random drawing of digits. This determines whether they have lost or won.

The major game which is offered and lets people of the state benefit from Washington lottery winning numbers is Powerball, whose ticket costs $2 per game. It is a very powerful game which can help you win up to millions.

Then, we have Mega Millions which is actually quite similar to Powerball. It was previously known as “The Big Game.” Each ticket costs $2. The basic thing to know is that the more numbers you have which match the drawn numbers, the more you get to win.

Director Marcus Glasper, who was chosen by Governor Jay Inslee in March 2018, is in charge of overseeing the lottery. The Lotto is governed by a five-person Lottery Commission, which has the authority to set up and adopt ethical working procedures.

The Commission members hold other full-time jobs in addition to their work at the Lottery. In order to actively participate in significant Lottery matters, each Commission member must attend significant Lottery Commission meetings every two months and maintain regular touch with the Lottery Director. The Governor appoints commission members, who are then confirmed by the state Senate for a six-year term.

Where do the proceeds from the lottery go?
The Washington Opportunity Paths Account (WOPA) receives lottery proceeds. The Washington College Grant (formerly known as the State Need Grant), the College Bound Scholarship Program, the State Work Study Program, and the Early Childhood Education and Support Program receive the majority of lottery funds that are given to WOPA. The remaining Lottery funds are distributed to the Stadium and Exhibition Center, the Economic Development Reserve Account, the Problem Gambling Account, and WOPA when the mandatory contribution to WOPA has been made.
