About Minnesota (MN) Lottery

The establishment of the state’s official Lottery, the Minnesota Lottery took place in 1988, after a successful voter referendum. The MN lottery is heavily involved in multiple charity activities. It is a vital contributor to the state fund by generating the revenue through the lottery games. Every time a player participates in the lottery, about 25 cents per a dollar goes to the state fund. Since it’s inception, the MN lottery has contributed over $2.6 billion to the welfare of the state. Fondly called by the players as Minn lottery, it also takes part in protecting the environment by donating a part of the revenue. Just over 50% of the money from ticket sales goes to the General Fund which supports health care, K-12 education, public safety and government’s aid.

The MN Lottery has driven the funds to several environmental protection funds such as:

  • The Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
  • The game and Fish Fund.
  • The Natural Resources Fund.

61.9% of the revenue goes back to the players who top the Minnesota Lottery results. Since the inception of the MN Lottery, over $1.44 billion was contributed to the General Fund so far. 6.5 percent of the revenue goes to the Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund, which is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the natural resources of the state. Finally, 4.6 % of is dedicated to the fish ponds, trails, parks, and Zoo.
